The average cost of a four-year college education in the US is nearly $20,000, according to a new report from the College Board.
And that's without even taking into account scholarships, grants, or work-study programs.
The report finds that the average amount students receive from the federal government for tuition and fees is just $4,300, while the average amount students receive from private colleges is $10,250.
And that doesn't even take into account scholarships, which can amount to as much as $20,000 for some students, the Washington Post reports.
The report finds that students from low- and middle-income households are the most likely to be saddled with student loan debt.
